What to Know About Window Repair VS Replacement

Image
Image courtesy of Unsplash In certain circumstances, such as rotting frames or moisture intrusion, replacing windows is better than patching over an issue. Signs it’s time for replacement are foggy appearance, difficulty opening/closing windows, draftiness, etc. Cost Image courtesy of Unsplash Fixing windows that aren’t functioning as they should can be expensive; however, repairs often come out cheaper than replacement and can enhance the security, beauty and energy efficiency of your home. Common repairs involve lubricating and adjusting hardware that’s sticky or difficult to operate, and adding weather strips as an energy efficiency measure to avoid drafts and keep your home energy efficient. A professional can also add weather strips as additional security. Cracked glass repairs are another common necessity. A professional can use glass adhesive, similar to that used for auto maintenance, to fill and seal cracks quickly and efficiently. This approach works well on singl...

Earthquake Insurance: Essential Protection for Homeowners

Earthquake insurance provides protection against financial losses caused by earthquakes. Earthquakes are natural disasters that can cause significant damage to properties, leading to substantial financial losses.   While regular homeowners insurance policies generally do not cover earthquake damage, earthquake insurance provides specific coverage for such incidents. This type of coverage can help homeowners and renters recover and rebuild after an earthquake, covering various costs such as repairing structural damage, replacing personal belongings, and temporary living expenses.   It is particularly essential for individuals living in earthquake-prone areas to consider earthquake insurance to safeguard their financial well-being in the event of a seismic event. Understanding the specifics of earthquake insurance, including coverage limits, deductibles, and exclusions, can help individuals make informed decisions about protecting their homes and belongings from the d...

TSMC Jumps Into Silicon Photonics, Lays Out Roadmap For 12.8 Tbps COUPE On-Package Interconnect

Optical connectivity – and especially silicon photonics – is expected to become a crucial technology to enable connectivity for next-generation datacenters, particularly those designed HPC applications. With ever-increasing bandwidth requirements needed to keep up with (and keep scaling out) system performance, copper signaling alone won’t be enough to keep up. To that end, several companies are developing silicon photonics solutions, including fab providers like TSMC, who this week outlined its 3D Optical Engine roadmap as part of its 2024 North American Technology Symposium, laying out its plan to bring up to 12.8 Tbps optical connectivity to TSMC-fabbed processors. TSMC’s Compact Universal Photonic Engine (COUPE) stacks an electronics integrated circuit on photonic integrated circuit (EIC-on-PIC) using the company’s SoIC-X packaging technology. The foundry says that usage of its SoIC-X enables the lowest impedance at the die-to-die interface and therefore the highest ene...

The Art of Extemporaneous Preaching: Lessons from Charles Spurgeon

On February 23, 1856, Charles H. Spurgeon found a spare moment to write to a friend about the remarkable revival that was happening under his preaching. He had been in London for less than two years, and in that short time, his popularity had grown such that no building could hold the thousands coming to hear him. England had not seen the likes of Spurgeon since the days of Wesley and Whitefield. “Everywhere, at all hours, places are crammed to the doors. The devil is wide awake, but so, too, is the Master.” With this growing popularity, the invitations to preach were pouring in. Just that week, Spurgeon had already preached eleven times. His letter concluded with a list of the fourteen preaching engagements he had the following week, preaching two to three times a day ( Autobiography , 2:101–2). He would maintain this preaching pace for the first fifteen years of his ministry, and even as poor health began to limit his activity, Spurgeon still regularly preached four times a week i...

How Satanic Forces Keep Us from Advancing

Image
Grab the e-course, Conquering Hindering Spirits, which is available for a limited time at https://ift.tt/uTcdUNv. Satan uses hindering spirits to interfere with God’s plans for our lives. We need to deal with every satanic interference so we can walk in His blessings. We need to stop tolerating every measure of satanic interference in our lives. I’m talking about obstructing demonic forces that are illegally engaging in tactics to hinder the exploits God has called us to. They are bringing confusion into our communications with other people. They are twisting our words before they land in the ears of the listener. These hindering spirits must bow. These satanic interferers and influencers must be stopped in the name of Jesus because they hamper us. They hinder us. They impede our forward-moving progress. They inhibit us. They intrude on God’s will for our lives. Sometimes, they prevent us from accelerating. Sometimes, they bring conflict into our lives. These satanic interferer...

Classic Carrara Marble Counters in a Traditional Kitchen

Kitchens are often the most utilized space in any home. From food preparation and cooking to time spent around the dining table, this room sees a lot of action. It’s also typically the most expensive room in any home due to the investment in cabinets, counters, hardware, and appliances. When envisioning a kitchen for our new build, I aimed for a design with lasting power. While many man-made materials claim durability, I couldn’t ignore the natural stone that has adorned buildings and sidewalks in Europe for centuries. Natural stone possesses longevity, and with the knowledge of how to maintain it and what to expect as it ages, you can enjoy it for a lifetime. I had a pretty clear idea that I wanted dark soapstone for the worktable inset and a lighter marble for the perimeter cabinets and backsplash. Choosing the exact stones came down to budget and what was available at local stone yards. Selecting the soapstone was straightforward; I opted for one with green undertones from Brazi...

Akintoye, Igboho write Tinubu, seek exit from Nigeria

Image
The Yoruba Self-determination Movement, led by Banji Akintoye and Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has written an open letter to President Bola Tinubu , seeking a peaceful breakaway of the Yoruba people from Nigeria. In the letter signed by Mr Akintoye, Mr Adeyemo and Ola Ademola, the trio urged the President to establish a negotiation team with the group within the next two months and have a dialogue with them. This is coming days after suspected Yoruba nation agitators attempted an invasion of the Oyo State government secretariat. Recall that both Igboho and Mr Akintoye had distanced themselves from the actions of the agitators. The group, in the letter, alleged that the Fulani have been killing and destroying Yoruba communities since 2015 with an estimated 29,000 Yoruba people killed to date. According to the group, the Fulani attacks and killings have led to instability and forced many farmers to abandon their farms, potentially leading to years of famine. ...

In Future Wars, Drone Weapons With Minds of Their Own

SUBSCRIBER+EXCLUSIVE BRIEFING — Drone weapons are part of the daily narrative of the war in Ukraine – from Russia’s use of Iranian drones against infrastructure to Ukraine’s drone strikes against Russian territory and Russian vessels in the Black Sea. Beyond those headline-grabbing attacks, both sides are now using drones in nearly every military operation, and as the volume of drone strikes soars, Russia and Ukraine have invested heavily in domestic drone manufacturing to meet a soaring demand. And if Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine sparked the world’s first true drone war, other global theaters of conflict aren’t far behind. Hamas used drone weapons in its October 7 assault on Southern Israel, Israel has an arsenal of high-end drone weapons, and Iran – beyond its shipments of drones to Russia – used dozens of drones in its weekend attack on Israeli targets, and has armed several of its proxy militia groups with drone weaponry. Meanwhile, experts in drone proliferation and East ...

Separation anxiety – Pet GP

Image
Dogs are sociable animals. Throughout history they have always lived in packs or “family” groups. If they have the choice, they prefer this way of living. Cats, on the other hand are more independent and rarely suffer from separation anxiety. Some dogs crave the companionship of humans. Some dogs are happier with other dogs but either way they would prefer not to be alone for long periods of time.  Most dogs should cope with being left for a few hours, particularly if they have been brought up this way from a young age.   If you notice any of the following signs, then your pet could be suffering from separation anxiety:  Your pet follows you from room to room when you are at home and becomes anxious when they cannot see you.  They become distressed when you prepare to leave the house   They are elated when you return home  They show any of these physiological symptoms in relation to being on their own: panting, pacing, salivating/dro...

The Dangers of Isolation

Image
The more hurt I was, the more I wanted to run. The more I replayed the past, the more I wanted to simply stay underneath the covers and not get up in the mornings. It seemed the harder life was, the more I wanted to isolate myself from others. And life got darker….and darker…. and darker.    That’s the danger of isolation. When we’re going through hard times, it is easy for us to isolate ourselves. We don’t want others around. We don’t want to cry one more tear over the situation. We don’t want to explain our emotions again and again. But the more we pull away, the darker the situation becomes. God created us for community. He created us so that others around us can encourage us when we are down. He uses people to speak life into us, when we are too tired, or broken, or emotionally weak, to even read His word.   The problem is, when we are really hurting, it can be much easier to isolate than to reach out to others and really address the layers of emotions we’re ...

‘EFCC cell is big man’s place,’ Cubana Chief Priest counsels invited suspects

Image
Fresh from EFCC custody after he got N10 million bail regarding his naira abuse trial, Nigerian celebrity barman Pascal Okechukwu, aka Cubana Chief Priest, has drummed support for the activities of the EFCC . The socialite was arraigned at the Federal High Court, Lagos, before Justice Kehinde Ogundare, on Wednesday. He pleaded not guilty to three counts of naira abuse filed against him by the anti-graft agency. Since his arrest and trial, celebrities like Portable have publicly apologised to the EFCC for abusing the naira in the past. On Thursday, it was widely reported that a former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, was declared wanted by the EFCC after he evaded arrest and snubbed a court hearing scheduled for his arraignment on N80 billion charges. However, in an Instagram post on Thursday, Cubana Chief Priest posted a photo of the EFCC logo and eulogised the agency. He remarked that the eagle in EFCC’s logo symbolises the EFCC’s ability to soar high and capture individua...
